30% Of Memphis’ Realtors Are Forced To Quit The Real Estate Industry

The turbulent residential real estate market of the last three years has proven too much for a large number of real estate agents.  The lack of home sales has weeded out lots of real estate agents who saw the industry as a part-time job, a hobby or thought it was an easy way to get rich quick.  The Memphis Area Association of Realtors reported in 2011 seeing a 30% drop in membership over past three years.

Nationally, those numbers were claimed to be down 15% from peak levels during the same time.  Today’s market seems to be dominated by the strong agents, with strong referral networks, able to use new technologies to their advantage, and who are willing to work harder to move listings.  Normally that’s usually the case, but the players coming in second are far behind the pack of leaders.  Gone are the easy days of real estate where you could just put it in MLS and plant a sign in the yard and expect to get a sale.

Because of the challenges that face real estate agents today in this challenging real estate market, it’s never been more important to find the best real estate agents to sell your house.

  1. This must be a very tense moment for realtors who have just started their career in real estate market. This is a huge number of real estate agents quitting the profession.

    • It’s just a thinning out of the people who got in when a Realtor’s life was easy and they didn’t have to work too hard to sell a house. Today, commissions are earned and lots of new agents discovered that this isn’t what they signed up for.
